Record Store Day 2019

Record Store Day, April 13th, 2019:

For those of you in the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Miami/West Palm Beach area, we will officially open both stores on Record Store Day at 8AM and stay open until at least 8PM. We are ordering plenty of every title available in all genres. We'll also have lots of other sales going on in the store, and free refreshments. Both stores will be well stocked with RSD merch and we still have the best pricing! We charge only the suggested list price on RSD items, even though we are allowed to charge up to 20% higher.

Here is a link to a convenient google sheet that will update in real time if we add quantities, if a title gets shelved by RSD, etc.  It shows our prices and how many we ordered (note: we won't get everything we ordered, but it gives you an idea)

Our wristband program has worked great in the last few years. Numbered, colored wristbands (like at the club lol) are distributed as you get in line. No one can cut you in line because you will enter the store according to your numbers. (We typically have guest vinyl sellers outdoors for you to peruse and buy from, so you don't have to worry about getting out of line for a moment to buy something from them.) Everyone getting in line or arriving by 9AM (even though we open at 8AM) will get a wristband, which also serves another purpose: it will get you doorbuster deals, which typically end at noon, for the entire day - at both stores!

The first 10 people in line at each store will be guaranteed to be able to buy the one item at the top of their list, provided we received it, and provided one of the people in front of them didn't already request all we had left. We appreciate that some of you guys camp out from 10PM the previous night, sleep outside, or show up at 2, 3, or 4AM. We couldn't handle the guilt if the first person in line didn't get the item they wanted because they walked to the wrong side of the aisle and someone behind them in line grabbed it.

To that end, we always organize and alphabetize (by first name) our RSD merch. You'll be able to walk the stock from A to Z, so you can prioritize what you go for first. "Various artist" albums, like soundtracks, will be under the first word of the title, not under "V" for Various.

A note about parking in Fort Lauderdale: we have an arrangement with the big office buildings directly to our south on Federal Highway. They are totally cool with us parking there. The small stores to our north (including the pharmacy, the piano store, etc.) are NOT HAPPY with us parking there. They threaten to call the police and tow trucks every year. Please don't give them an excuse to do so. This is another reason we put so many cashiers on to move the line along quickly.

Lauderhill has plenty of parking!

Entertainment lined up for Record Store Day includes:

Fort Lauderdale Store: DJ Funktual & DJ Aaron

Lauderhill Store: Mongoose Triple Threat & VJ Barry Browder

If you have never been to We Got The Beats before:

We opened about 8 years ago with a focus on dance music, disco, 70's singer-songwriters, 80's stuff, R&B/Soul, and pop - specializing in imports and other things you won't find most other places - and at great prices, new & used.  With the move a few years ago to our current location, we also added a rock department - it tends to be pretty mainstream, not too heavy, matching the rest of our groove - classic rock, 70's stuff, alt rock that crossed over to a Y-100 type of audience, etc.  (Again, for RSD we order everything, and in good quantity.)  When we expanded the new location, this evolved into basically "the dance side" and "the rock side" (affectionately known as "SIDE B.")  The dance side also includes R&B/Soul and all new arrivals.  The rock side also includes a nice sized hip-hop department.

Most of the used vinyl in our store sells for $2 to $3 each.

If you are interested in a Record Store Day item you found at www.recordstoreday.com that may be less well-known, please email Tony at wegotthebeats@aol.com and tell him to order it (the sooner, the better!) Obviously we order all the Dylan, Bowie, Grateful Dead, etc. by the boatload.  But if we don't recognize something, we tend to order far fewer of it.  (This is especially true of the 7" singles because we tend to get stuck with a lot of those that don't sell on RSD.)  Your input really helps us to place better orders, and we are happy to do it.  (Note: this is not a hold or a pre-payment or reservation, just information to help us buy enough to meet the demand.)

This is a friendly store - no 'tude, no snobbery - ask any question you may have.

Feel free to explore the rest of our site, and send any requests or questions to wegotthebeats@aol.com

Thanks!

Tony
